I have more than 500 machines across a van covering three continents, from time to time, There is a need to collect which are on the local hard disk on every blade. Each server is running Windows Server 2003 and the files are mounted on a shared port, which can be accessed as a server \ log away from the server. Each machine holds several files which can be several MBs and the size can be reduced by zipping.
So far, I have tried to use the powerlal script and a simple Java application to copy. It takes several days to collect 500 GB or so many files in both ways. Is there a better solution that would be faster and more efficient?
I think it depends on what you do with it ... if you They are going to parse the metrics data in the database, so they can be fast enough to establish a parsing utility on each machine and at the same time load into your central database.
Even if you are compressing and copying whatever you are doing to a central location, then those commands are one. Set in the CMD file and schedule it to run on each server automatically. Then you will distribute all your local server work among all servers instead of doing all the work. : -)
