This question has always been around my head.
Can anyone create a new product based on an existing product open source project?
You want to create an "Apps webserver", which is basically Apache with some of your additional plugins (say ASP or some similar support)
Is it possible is?
Will you be able to prepare a closed source product (either free or licensed)
It seems obvious for GPL that it is not possible because the source should be open but "Corporate Friendly" about Apache License, BSD and others.
The only thing that can be prevented from commercialization with others is the price (with most projects free), bug fixes and core development team. About those OS products?
About: A business product based on Chrome, which is on Chrome with Active X support (which would dare to do such a thing: P)
Edit
Thank you all for your reply.
Then, again
Does the clone prevent products from appearing in the market?
:)
Note: I know that we are not lawyers, and we can read every OS License here.
Nothing prevents the cloning products from being displayed on the market. For example, see all the various Linux distributions. X.org project was drawn from XFree86
- The original project has the first-to-market advantage
Li> Original is usually given free of cost
So long as your version is not much better than the original, you can not get too fast or more Money can earn if your version is Important importantly, then go ahead!
From the standpoint of the original developer, the power of GPL is that it forces such a clone to be shared with any improvement, the rest of the world, so they can be included back in the original .
