When an application icon is displayed, is it a Windows which version which uses (bit depth) Or is it somehow set up the ICO file?
If I create an ICO file with only 32 bit color (24 bit + 8 bit transparency), then the icon shows on XP correctly. If I add an example to the 4bit version, then the windows Always use this 4bit version, even if there are 32 bit pictures. My monitor is set to 32bit colors I'm using the Greenfish Icon Editor if it's any important.
Is there a way to press Windows to use 32 bit icons instead of changing the 4bit one?
EDIT: ICOFX just opens the original ICO file and it will save it again and now Windows always chooses the right bit depth. Interesting ...
This is selected based on bit-depth of the surface selected by Windows Depending on the actual sequence of icons inside the .ICO file (or resource), that is why you get different results with ICOFX.
